Can a household receive
more than one discount? No; the Federal Lifeline discount is only available one
per household.
Can I receive a discount on my wireless phone and my traditional
wireline home phone? No; the Federal Lifeline discount is only available for
one telephone line (either traditional wireline or wireless; not
both) per household and is non-transferrable.
How do I qualify for the Federal
Lifeline discount?
There are two ways to qualify; you may qualify under Method 1 “Program-Based” OR Method 2 “Income- Based” eligibility.
Here’s how it works. Under Method 1 “Program Based” eligibility, you qualify for the Federal
Lifeline discount if you OR another member of your household is currently enrolled in any one of the
following public assistance programs:
Medicaid/Medi-Cal
SSI
Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
Federal Public Housing Assistance or Section 8
CalFresh, Food Stamps or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC)
Healthy Families Category A
National School Lunch Program (NSLP)
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs)
Stanislaus County Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (StanWORKs)
Welfare-to-Work (WTW)
Greater Avenues for Independence (GAIN)
Tribal TANF
Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance
Head Start Income Eligible (Tribal Only)
Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR)
You may also qualify under Method 2 “Income-Based”
